This Year's Thing
depicts a very special
event at a fictitious Edinburgh gay pub called
Judy's Bar.
Judy's is owned by 60 y/o
Anthony Childs
(Roger Burroughs),
who has spent his adult life campaigning for
LGBT rights.
Anthony was openly gay long before it was fashionable, or even
legal.
The Manager of Judy's is
Sophie
(Charlotte Chadwick),
a mid twenties and terribly well organised bisexual women. She
is producing the event at Judy's which will mark 40 years since
Judy Garland
died and the
Stonewall Riots
erupted.
Those gathering include hot
young lesbians Jem
(Julie Edwards) and
Josie (Kat
Folan). Known as
the JJ Girls, these two stunners are brash, fun and totally
un-PC. A highlight of the night will be Josie's version of the
theme from the musical
Cabaret,
as performed in the film by Judy Garland's daughter
Liza Minnelli.
Wide
eyed young gay man
Kevin (Gary Reid)
doesn't care about Judy Garland and has never heard of
Stonewall. However, he is
so
dying to meet Anthony. Kevin likes older men, and who better
than the club owner to get his fingers into?
A very special guest is
Laura (Nicole
Dolder). Laura is a
transsexual women with attitude and a very big mouth. Back in
1969, whilst the Stonewall Riots were raging,
Young Laura (Ajay Lu) was
attacked at an illegal gay bar in Edinburgh by two
Policemen (Michael
Mills and
David Dalzell).
Her friends Susan
(Katy Dimmock) and
Philip (Francis
Aiken) witnessed the
beating. The attack would have consequences 40 years later...
tonight at Judy's Bar...
This Year's Thing is a
fictitious comedy drama set in Edinburgh during 1969 and 2009.
It contains violence,
swearing and at least one gratuitous snog. Recommended for 16+.
